Grace Hopper Travel Sponsorship

Hey everyone! I trust you have been well and are super excited for the weekend as much as I am! Thank you for all the positive feedback you have been giving me. I am more than grateful to have you stopping by this blog.

If you are female university student or a female excelling in an information technology profession, then you should definitely continue reading this post. As part of Google’s ongoing commitment to increase the number of women in engineering, they are offering travel sponsorships to the 2013 Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing Conference. It is slotted to take place in Minneapolis from October 2nd -5th 2013.



The theme for this year’s conference is “Think Big. Drive Forward” and it will offer incredible opportunities for mentoring, networking, and technical and career development. Google will pay for successful applicants’ conference registration, airfare to and from the conference and hotel accommodation whilst attending the conference.



If you feel like you meet the criteria required, you should apply for the travel grants using the form provided by August 22, 2013. The Grace Hopper Travel Sponsorship winners will be announced on the week of September 4th.

Grace Hopper Travel Sponsorship Terms and Conditions:

Eligibility Criteria.

  1. Applicants must be either female university students or information technology industry professionals.
  2. University Students: A female student enrolled in bachelors, masters or PhD program (or equivalent) for the 2013-2014 academic year or a current student who is graduating in 2013 or later. Applicants must be enrolled at a university in Europe, the Middle East or Africa. Citizens, permanent residents, and international students are eligible to apply. Student applicants must be studying computer science, computer engineering, informatics, or a closely related technical field. 
  3. Information Technology Industry professionals: A female professional software engineer working in the industry. Must be a citizen or permanent resident of a country in Europe, Middle East or Africa.
  4. Persons who are either residents of embargoed countries, ordinarily resident in embargoed countries, or otherwise prohibited by applicable export controls and sanctions programs are not eligible to apply for Grace Hopper Travel Sponsorship. 
  5. Applicants must be available to travel to the conference slotted for October 2nd – 5th, 2013. 
  6. Current Google employees or current Google interns are not eligible to apply. 
  7. Applicants must be 18 years of age or older as of August 8, 2013.


Travel and Visa Arrangements.

  1. Applicants will be responsible for securing and paying for any applicable visas required in order for them to attend the conference. 
  2. The Grace Hopper Travel Sponsorship will cover the registration fee for the Grace Hopper Conference, airfare to and from the conference and hotel accommodation.


Selection Criteria.

  1. All eligible applications will be reviewed by an internal panel of Google judges and the 30 best applications based on academic merit (as assessed by the panel of judges in their sole discretion) will be successful.
  2. Notification of successful applicants will take place in early September. Notification is subject to verification of eligibility and compliance with all the terms and conditions set forth herein. Successful Applicants will be required to accept the Grace Hopper Travel Sponsorship within 7 days from notification by Google. If successful Applicants fail to accept within 7 days, the Grace Hopper Travel Sponsorship may be forfeited and Google may, in its sole discretion, select and alternative successful Applicant.

The Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing is a program of the +Anita Borg Institute  This year will mark the 13th annual conference which will feature keynote speakers, plenary sessions, panels, poster session and workshops led by successful researchers and professionals in the high tech industry.
